High Speed Police Chase Through Ruddington

A police helicopter was deployed in the skies of Ruddington yesterday evening – to assist officers tracking a vehicle being driven at break-neck speed through our village.

Residents became aware of the ongoing incident when police sirens were sounded to alert other road users as they pursued the speeding driver. Vicky Marshall reported: “I had a near miss with the car at the roundabout in Ruddington. Two police cars came chasing the car!” Carla O’Brien added: “They literally went down Kirk Lane at about 80mph.”

In a statement to RUDDINGTON.info, Nottinghamshire Police confirmed: “Officers pursued a vehicle after it failed to stop in Ruddington Lane, Wilford, at around 8.45pm last night (18th February). The police helicopter assisted officers in their search for the car, which was being driven at a high speed when officers attempted to stop it”.

However, there remains a bit of a mystery as to what actually happened next – as two local eye witnesses reported a subsequent car crash on Kirk Lane. Laura Wright posted: “I’ve just come out of Elms Park and there’s a car smashed into a telegraph pole on Kirk Lane – and a cop car with it.” She described the damaged car as light blue metallic in colour and “fairly recent”.

But police insist that’s NOT the car they were chasing, telling us: “We were unable to locate the vehicle. Our enquiries are ongoing.” So it seems the culprit(s) got away, after all?!
